MISSION STATEMENT
The Capital Volleyball Academy (CVA) is completely dedicated to providing its athletes with the technical, tactical & physical training to reach their highest possible potential as a volleyball player. Capital Volleyball Academy is also committed to providing the most cost effective situation for its families and their club volleyball experience.
CVA was created from the requests of families to improve the club volleyball experience for athletes & families of the Madison area. CVA will share the lowest club volleyball costs possible with its families to help ensure that every player in the Madison area has the opportunity to receive the benefits of club volleyball.
Our staff will strive to help each and every player regardless of age or ability to achieve maximum performance. For the young player we want to develop a solid base of fundamental skill as well as a passion for the sport. As players get older and progress through the program, we want to provide the path to a level of excellence that allows each and every athlete to test their limitations. Only by constantly testing our limits can we truly find our potential. This is the true measure that separates greatness from mediocrity and determines who will be the champion and who will fall short. Champions are not always the winner of the final match, but their effort and commitment to themselves and to their teammates is the ultimate prize.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
THE COACH’S ROLE
Capital coaches must possess the ability to hold themselves to a higher standard in coaching volleyball. They need to be able to fill numerous roles for the team such as trainer of technical skills, team organizer, educator of players, and unifier of the team.
As a coaching staff, we must be involved with the team during the first phase of training so we can learn about our players as individuals and as a group. We do this to find out what we can learn about our team to help them grow as volleyball players and people...and ultimately become successful in attaining the team’s goals.
Coaches must also address the physical and mental aspects of volleyball. The physical training will be worked into our training sessions and will be monitored closely by our coaching staff. The mental training is addressed by creating a high energy, well organized practice environment. Then playing a competitive tournament schedule where we strive to play the top club teams in the country. This approach will challenge our players to be mentally prepared every time they take the floor representing the Capital Volleyball Academy.
FUNDAMENTALS
The Capital Volleyball Academy builds its training system around the fundamentals of the sport. Those fundamentals that hold our entire training system together, take many hours of practice and review throughout the course of a club season. Stressing the fundamentals also aids with developing a team’s discipline and confidence. Constantly working on the fundamentals can constantly help our players improve their volleyball skills and achieve their goals in volleyball. This approach will not promise championships or medals, but it will promise improvement in all our athletes.
TEAM PLAY
Volleyball is a sport in which six players play a single ball and must be united as “one.” That unity can be the decisive factor for victory or success. At Capital, we believe in the “team concept.” Each player on the team must understand and accept their role on the team for the team to succeed. If this is achieved, then the team's goals will be achieved. These roles must be developed by the coach in practice and in match play. All players for CVA will receive the opportunity to contribute to the team’s success during match play. “The whole which is greater than the sum of its individual parts” philosophy is CVA’s approach to developing the team. All players on the team will contribute to the team’s success.
PHILOSOPHY BY AGE DIVISION
18/17 Age Division:
The goal for this age division is to prepare these athletes for the college level of volleyball. We will provide a high standard of training and participate in the most competitive tournament possible that also offers a top level of college exposure. The athletes set individual and team goals, and players are challenged to meet these goals throughout the course of the season.
16/15 Age Division:
The goal for this age division is to prepare these athletes for our 18/17 program. We will develop and build upon their base of fundamental skills, the foundation of a solid volleyball player. A competitive schedule and good college exposure is provided. Developing the individual through team roles and participation is stressed during competition in this age division.
14/13 Age Division:
The goal for this age group is to develop a strong base of fundamental skills and to introduce a competitive practice and match environment as we prepare these athletes for the 16/15 program. The training environment is stressed over competition at this age division. Participation is stressed during competition in this age division.
12 & Under Age Division:
The goal for this age group is to introduce these athletes to the sport of volleyball and the proper technical skills that will encourage positive development within the sport of volleyball as they prepare for our 14/13 age group. The training environment is a higher priority than competition at this age level where “winning” is not stressed…“Improvement” is! Equal participation is stressed at this age division.
